NEW YORK (CBS) Lots of future brides dream of getting married in white gowns, but white suits?
“I’ve always wanted to get married in a white suit” proclaims “Paper Planes” singer M.I.A., who shares this and other wishes in the July 2010 issue of GQ magazine.
The star is promoting her weirdly titled new album “/\/\/\Y/\” based on her given name Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam.
She’s a 34-year-old rock mama who relocated to the City of Angels by-way-of Brooklyn’s Bed Stuy neighborhood to raise her toddler son.
The singer’s colorful stories are about as varied as those of any post-adolescent army brat. The memory of a childhood in a war-torn Sri Lanka still resonates for the singer, who does her best to compartmentalize the many experiences she has, from “refugee” turned London art-school anti-geek to genre-pushing alternative pop star. It’s summed up in her lyrics: “I got brown skin but I’m a West Londoner / Educated but I’m still a refugee.”
Staying street-smart in constantly changing surroundings did take its toll for the star, especially without her dad around. “England gave me a free education,” she says, “but my grades suffered because I didn’t have my dad to help me. I’ve paid the price. I’ve had the cause and effect, all that. I feel like I don’t have anything to do with my dad.”
Still, M.I.A. paints herself as a medium stuck between “the Third World and the First World” juggling that duality in her life and art. She’s ready to venture to somewhere that even this far-out maven of the cool and obscure hasn’t yet vistited: “I’m ready to go to Ohio,” she says to GQ, sort of kidding. “I would love to move next door to Dave Chappelle. That’s my dream. If I stick around America, that’s what I’m doing.”

Prince Albert of Monaco is finally tying the knot – and an old classmate from Amherst College couldn’t be happier.
“Thank God,” said former state Sen. Warren Tolman, who has known the former playboy prince – and father of two illegitimate children – since their frat-boy days on the western Mass. campus.
The palace in the tiny French principality announced yesterday that the 52-year-old royal is engaged to stunning South African former Olympic swimmer Charlene Wittstock, 32, whom he’s dated for several years.
According to protocol, royal couples must wait at least six months between the announcement of the engagement and the wedding day, a palace spokeswoman said yesterday. Hmmm. A royal December wedding???
News reports said Albert – a former Olympic bobsledder – met the swimming champ in 2000 when she was in Monaco for a tournament. Wittstock swam for South Africa at the Sydney Olympics that year but did not medal.
The former school teacher moved to Monaco in 2006.

If Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart weren’t already official, we don’t know who is.
But the long-term couple have finally made it legal, tying the knot in New Mexico on Tuesday in a ceremony presided over by Governor Bill Richardson, a rep for Flockhart confirmed to E! News.
Ford, 67, and the 45-year-old Brothers & Sisters star got engaged in early 2009 after more than seven years together.
But maybe, understandably, Ford wasn’t quite ready to take the plunge again, having already been married twice.
He and first wife, Mary Marquardt, spent 15 years (including 1977, when Star Wars came out) together, and then he and Melissa Mathison were married for 21 years.
This is the first marriage for Flockhart, who adopted son Liam in 2001. Ford has four children from his previous relationships, plus three grandchildren.

Terrence Howard is a married man.
The actor, 41, who will play Nelson Mandela in biopic Winnie, quietly wed commercial production worker Michelle Ghent-Howard, 33, in a small L.A. ceremony last January.
“Terrence is so in love with her and she’s a great, down-to-earth girl who really understands and loves him for him,” an insider tells UsMagazine.com. “He feels so lucky.”
Howard let the news slip to CNN’s Anderson Cooper during an interview at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday.
“To come here and be with my wife, it’s the best feeling in the world,” he said of promoting his movie, (which co-stars Jennifer Hudson) in the South of France.
Howard split from his wife of 13 years, Lori McComma, in 2005. They have three children together: Aubrey, Heaven and Hunter.

Tom Hanks may be one step closer to becoming a grandfather. People magazine confirmed that the megastar’s son, actor Colin Hanks, wed publicist Samantha Bryant on May 8.
According to the news source, the couple exchanged vows on top of the London Hotel in West Hollywood. A slew of celebrity pals looked on as the pair tied the knot, including Alyssa Milano and Reese Witherspoon.
A video posted at E! Online shows Bryant wearing a gorgeous v-neck gown that featured a contrasting yet striking dark sash and holding a bouquet of white flowers. Her veil and floor-length wedding dress blew in the breeze as they couple wed at sunset.
The Orange County star met his wife through mutual friends, but didn’t immediately pursue a romantic relationship. But is sounds like Bryant was smitten early on. “He was the perfect gentleman,” Bryant told the New York Times.
As long as Hanks follows in the footsteps of his famous father, we think this marriage will last – Tom has been happily married to wife Rita Wilson since 1988!

The weather is finally getting warmer and you know what that means—weddings!
We brought you the deets on Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher‘s summer soiree, and now we’ve got the goods on Emily Blunt and John Krasinski‘s big bash.
And it’s just around the corner.
The pair announced their engagement in August and will be heading down the aisle in “about a month,” a source tells E! News.
“She is planning the wedding right now and is down to the last-minute details,” the source says. “They picked up their wedding bands yesterday.”
The fashion-forward Devil Wears Prada star has tried on her fair share of bridal gowns, our snitch says.
“She looked at Monique Lhuillier and Vera Wang. She is definitely considering Monique Lhuillier.”
As for the event itself, it’s looking to be “a big wedding…probably in London or Los Angeles.”
Reps for the cutie couple did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
Blunt, 27, and Krasinski, 30, have been dating since November 2008.

Elton John Sings at Rush Limbaugh’s 4th Wedding
Kate Rogers and Rush Limbaugh
By Stephen M. Silverman FROM People.com
Update Monday June 07, 2010 06:00 AM EDT Originally posted Sunday June 06, 2010 10:00 AM EDT
Talk about an odd couple: conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh and outspoken gay civil-union advocate Elton John.
But, according to a News Corporation (which owns Fox News) wire report, the Rocket Man, 63, serenaded the 400 guests into the wee hours Saturday night to celebrate the marriage of Limbaugh, 59, to Kathryn Rogers, 33, in the Ponce de Leon ballroom of Florida’s fabled Breakers hotel in Palm Beach. Sir Elton’s fee: $1 million, the report notes.
Amid dozens of giant bouquets of white roses (and very tight security), reports the Palm Beach Post, guests at the wedding included former Bush adviser Karl Rove; actor-politician Fred Thompson; former Kansas City Royals slugger George Brett; Fox News commentator Sean Hannity; former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani; New England Patriots owner Bob Kraft; former Clinton adviser James Carville and his wife, GOP analyst Mary Matalin; and golfer Tom Watson. A wedding guest also tells PEOPLE that among the others was Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
The couple met six years ago, while she was running a charity golf tournament and Limbaugh was in the process of divorcing for the third time.
Sunday morning, a source tells PEOPLE, the newlyweds hopped Limbaugh’s private Gulfstream jet for a honeymoon in Mexico, Africa and a couple other spots.
Rogers is a direct descendant of President John Adams, and her father attended the U.S. Naval Academy with the future Arizona Senator (and 2008 Republican Presidential candidate) John McCain, reports NewsCore.
The wire service also quotes the new bride as saying of the couple’s 26-year age gap: “I’m sometimes not able to relate to the average person my age.”
