Black Bridal dresses Vera Wang

Vera Wang Witchcraft Bridal collection

If Vera Wang’s Fall-Winter 2012 collection presented this weekend during New York’s Bridal Fashion Week is any indication, brides will be looking a bit somber, even funereal, as they walk down the aisles next year.

“Vera’s inspiration: Witchcraft! Light, airy, concoctions of froth. … Mysterious and sexy, frivolous and fun,” read a Tweet from Wang’s official Twitter account, @VeraWangGang.

The bridal-gown designer to the stars - she created the three gowns worn by Kim Kardashian during her recent nuptials to Kris Humphries – took a different, darker approach to that special day by showing 15 looks Sunday in just two colors: black and nude.

Worn by models donning center-parted hair that looked often dirty, wet and straggly, the gowns – created from deconstructed chiffon, silk, tulle, lace and organza – looked almost gothic at times.

The designer, 62, posted a picture on Twitter of various brightly hued swatches from her studio Saturday evening, hinting to fans that she would be giving them something to talk about for her fall-winter exhibition.

“Late night at the office getting ready for V’s F/W ’12 Bridal show on Sunday. Just wait until you see this collection?” the @VeraWangGang tweet read.

The Daily Mail noted that this was not the first time Wang had strayed from the more traditional color palette; she has shown dresses in grays, mint greens and even black. This year, however, not a single white look was shown.

Romantic awakenings for Robin Williams!

The comic and Oscar-winning actor, 60, married graphic designer Susan Schneider at the luxurious Meadowood Resort in the Napa Valley town of St. Helena, Calif., on Sunday. Rumored guests at the bash included Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Billy Crystal, among others.

In the days leading up to her wedding, Schneider, who heads up graphic design firm Critical Eye Design, told the San Francisco Chronicle she was “so excited and so thrilled” for her big day.

It’s the third marriage for the “Good Morning Vietnam” star who finalized his divorce with second wife Marsha last year. He has three kids: son Zachary, 28, with first wife Valerie, and daughter Zelda, 22, and Cody, 19, with ex Marsha.

According to British paper The Guardian, he met Schneider shortly before undergoing heart surgery in mid-2009; she nursed him back to health at his L.A.-area home.

Daughter of the groom Zelda Williams tweeted about the big Napa weekend. “Let the wedding madness begin!” she wrote Saturday. “Dad just called @RobertKazinsky and @ShannonCollis my hetero-lifemates at the wedding,” she cracked of two male pals.

“Just realized my tweets have probably been misconstrued. No, it’s not my wedding, haha. Thanks for the congratulations regardless. The wedding festivities rage on but my tired feet are done. Think it’s time to lay in the tub, eat m&m’s and write.”

The ceremony was attended by about 120 guests at sunset in a canyon setting in the northern part of Malibu. It was a simple yet elegant affair with the walk way to the pagoda running over a swimming pool and with what looked like two children as brides maids that were both dressed in black. The ceremony lasted for about 30 minutes before everyone got up and disappeared under the canopy of trees and into a marquee tent that had also been set up. – Splash News

Actress Shannen Doherty has tied the knot for the third time.

The star of Beverly Hills 90210 wed fiance Kurt Iswarienko in a shabby-chic ceremony in Malibu, California.

The 40-year-old, who played Brenda Walsh in the hit 1990s TV series, enjoyed sunset nuptials with the celebrity photographer at a private ceremony on Saturday.

The black-tie event is set to air on the season finale of the couple’s upcoming reality series, which tags along as they plan for their big day.

Doherty previously had short-lived marriages to Ashley Hamilton and notorious Paris Hilton sex-tape costar Rick Salomon.

Despite her failed marriages, she told People.com last year that when it comes to tying the knot she still keeps a positive outlook.

‘Marriage to me is such a gigantic commitment that it’s not something I’d ever go into lightly anymore,’ she said. ‘I’ve learned my lesson.’

King Jigme of Bhutan marries for love

PUNAKHA, Bhutan — The fifth Dragon King came down from his golden throne to place a silk crown upon the head of his bride. Monks chanted in celebration and she took her seat beside him Thursday, becoming the new queen of the tiny Himalayan nation of Bhutan.

The wedding of King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck to his commoner bride, Jetsun Pema, has captivated a nation that had grown impatient with their 31-year-old bachelor king’s lack of urgency to take a wife and start a family since his father retired and handed power to him five years ago.

Thousands of Bhutanese from the surrounding villages joined the king and queen at their wedding reception at a fairground outside the country’s most sacred monastery fortress, where a slate of dancers performed traditional routines for the new couple.

“I have longed for this celebration, and here it is,” said Pema Gyeltshen, a nearby villager, as he watched the dancing.

When the king, who has a reputation as a down-to-earth and accessible leader, was asked how it felt to be married, he asked his questioner if she was married. When she said no, he responded: “It’s great; you should try it yourself.”

The celebrations began at 8:20 a.m. — a time set by royal astrologers — when the king, wearing the royal yellow sash over a golden robe with red flowers and multicolored boots, walked into the courtyard of the 17th century monastery in the old capital of Punakha and proceeded up the high staircase inside.

A few minutes later, his 21-year-old bride, the daughter of an airline pilot, arrived at the end of a procession of red-robed monks and flag bearers across a wooden footbridge over the wide, blue river beside the fort and followed him inside.

Singers chanted songs of celebration amid the clanging of drums and the drone of long dhung trumpets. She wore a traditional wraparound skirt with a gold jacket with deep red cuffs.

Inside, the nation’s top cleric, who presided over the wedding, performed a purification ceremony for the couple in front of a massive 100-foot Thongdal tapestry of Bhutan’s 17th century founder, the monk-king Zhabdrung.

The pair then proceeded to the temple for a ceremony broadcast live on national television, save for a few minutes when the king, his father and the cleric, known as the Je Khenpo, entered the sacred tomb of Zhabdrung, where only they are allowed.

The king’s father then gave the bride an array of five colored scarves representing blessings from the tomb. Hesitantly, she then approached the king’s throne with a golden chalice filled with the ambrosia of eternal life. They held it together for several seconds and then he drank.

The king, wearing his red crown, with an image of the protector raven rising from the top, came down from the throne in front of a giant golden Buddha statue and placed a smaller crown on her head. After she took her place as queen, the newly married couple was feted by monks playing deep tones on traditional trumpets and pounding drums.

The Je Khenpo presented them a series of gifts — a mirror, curd, grass, a conch — representing blessings for longevity, wisdom, purity and other well wishes.

There were no foreign princes, no visiting heads of state, no global celebrities. Just the royal family and government officials at ceremony, thousands of villagers at the reception and much of the rest of the country’s 700,000 people watching live on TV.

The Oxford-educated king is adored for pushing development and ushering in democratic reforms that established a constitutional monarchy and legislature in 2008. His teen-idol looks — slicked back hair and long sideburns — his penchant for evening bike rides through the streets and his reputation as a laid-back, accessible leader, also make him the rare monarch whose picture adorns the bedroom walls of teenage girls.

The remote nation began slowly opening up to the rest of the world in the 1960s. Foreigners and the international media were first admitted in 1974. Television finally arrived in 1999.

The country has not had a royal wedding since the fourth king held a mass ceremony in 1988 with his four wives — four sisters whom he had informally married years earlier. The current king says he will take only one wife, so the country is unlikely to see another such celebration for a long time.

Sir Paul McCartney married his fiancée, Nancy Shevell, in London on Sunday on the day his late bandmate, John Lennon, would have turned 71.

The Beatles legend, 69, proposed to New York businesswoman Shevell in May after four years together,

and they became husband and wife on Sunday at London’s Westminster registry office at The Old Marylebone Town Hall, the same venue where McCartney married his late wife, Linda.

The couple received a blessing at a local synagogue on Saturday evening as part of Shevell’s Jewish religion ahead of Sunday’s civil service.

Shevell wore a flower in her hair and a simple white dress reportedly created by McCartney’s fashion designer daughter, Stella, who was among the guests at the nuptials, along with the singer’s former Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr and Shevell’s relative Barbara Walters.

The music icon’s younger brother Mike reportedly acted as best man, while McCartney’s daughter Beatrice, 7, from his marriage to Heather Mills, served as bridesmaid.

Flashing a giant sapphire and diamond engagement sparkler Saturday, Hurley Tweeted a photo of the pair prior to their dinner, along with the message “Thanks for all your congratulations.” Warne then copied the message onto his own Twitter page and circulated it to his followers.

It will be the second marriage for both Warne and Hurley, who finalized her divorce from hubby of four years Arun Nayar in June.

Princess Diana Sapphire Engagement Ring Liz Hurley’s impressive sapphire engagement ring (right) bears more than a Elizabeth Hurley Sapphire Engagement Ringpassing resemblance to the one Prince Charles gave to Princess Diana in 1981, pictured left.

That 12-carat oval sapphire, surrounded by a cluster of 14 diamonds, cost £28,500 from Garrard of Mayfair at the time.

It was, of course, presented to Kate Middleton by Prince William on their engagement in November last year. Jewellers have reported a rush for similar-looking rings ever since.

But sapphire has long been a popular choice for engagement rings as it has come to symbolise love, truth and commitment.

In the 12th Century, crusaders would present their wives with sapphire rings to test their fidelity, believing the vivid colour would fade if a woman was unfaithful.
